Why injection quills are replaced
Quills fail by erosion or corrosion of the tip, cracking at the weld between quill and flange, or blockage when the injected chemical is left standing in the line. A quill that has lost its tip injects against the pipe wall, which shows up as poor demulsifier or wash water performance long before the quill itself is suspected. Replacing the quill and reviewing the injection point together usually restores the mixing that the desalter or coalescer was designed for.
