Varies the input voltage to the DC power unit of an electrostatic coalescer prewash. A custom-made motorised auto-transformer (variac) on the primary side of the power unit: as it is driven up, the rectified output to the grid rises continuously from 0 to 40,000 V DC, which lets the operator raise the field after a start-up or an upset and hold it at the voltage the treated stream will sustain. Driven from the local control panel by the voltage controller.

Made to order from the nameplate of the DC power unit and the existing regulator: supply voltage and frequency, rated current, motor drive and control signal, enclosure and hazardous-area requirement. Suitable for DC power units of several makes; see the compatibility statement below.
